Our view
The 2.0-litre MX-5 is a better car than the 1.5 in every way that matters — it revs to seven thousand, it has the limited-slip differential and the bigger brakes, and it will still do forty to the gallon on the way to the Dales.
One owner, sixteen thousand miles, and a car that has plainly been garaged: the Soul Red is the deepest we have seen on a five-year-old car, and the hood is unmarked with clear rear glass and no creasing at the folds.
We have serviced it and — the important bit — cleaned out the roof drain channels and lubricated the mechanism. Blocked drains are what kill these cars, water gets into the sills and nobody notices for three years. Ours are clear, and the photographs are on file if you want to see them.
